Robert McClelland, a former Australian Labor attorney general and federal judge, has been named the new head of the National Anti-Corruption Commission.1 McClelland served as attorney general from 2007 to 2011 and has held the position of deputy chief judge of the Australian Federal Court and Family Court since 2018.1
Christopher Savendra has been appointed as deputy commissioner of the anti-corruption body.1 Savendra currently serves as director of enforcement and compliance at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.1 Both appointments have received unanimous support from the parliamentary joint committee, according to Attorney-General Michelle Rowland.1 McClelland and Savendra will commence their five-year terms on January 11, 2025.1 The positions became available following the resignation of former commissioner Paul Brereton in May 2024.1
