Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has revealed that Apple is moving forward with global preorders for its iPhone Duo foldable smartphone on Friday, October 18, despite being fully aware of severe supply shortages.1 Gurman criticized the decision as a significant mistake by the company, stating that Apple is prioritizing getting the device to market in the first fiscal quarter over meeting actual customer demand.1
The preorders are set to launch across more than 70 countries and regions worldwide.1 The supply constraints became immediately apparent after preorders began, with estimated delivery dates for the iPhone Duo extending to around January 25 in multiple markets within less than 30 minutes of the sales opening.1 According to Gurman's original commentary: "I'll just say it plainly: Apple has made a major mistake here. They clearly know supply is severely constrained, yet they're proceeding with the iPhone Duo launch as planned. Apple cares more about getting this device out in the early first quarter than actually fulfilling market demand."1 The product was initially planned for release only in the United States and China before being expanded to additional countries.1
