如今平阳已成为全球宠物用品产业的重镇，承包了全国六成以上的宠物咬胶市场，年产值超过50亿元，产品远销全球60多个国家和地区1。为适应产业发展需要，平阳完成了120多处景区和公园的适宠化改造，建成宠物医疗康养中心4个、宠物文创门店18家，形成了完整的宠物产业链和文旅体系1。2023年，平阳获评全国首个"中国宠物友好城市"1。
产业发展成果显著。2025年平阳接待携宠出游游客1.87万人次，带动关联产业营收近1亿元1。两家本土宠物企业已登陆资本市场，佩蒂股份2017年登陆深交所创业板，源飞宠物2022年登陆深交所主板1。
Zhejiang Province's Pingyang district has successfully reinvented itself as a global hub for pet supplies, overcoming its troubled industrial past to become the country's first officially designated "China Pet-Friendly City" in 2023.1 The district now commands over 60 percent of China's pet chew product market, with annual output value exceeding 5 billion yuan and exports reaching more than 60 countries and regions.1
The transformation marks a dramatic turnaround from Pingyang's earlier era as a leather-processing center. At the height of the tanning industry in 2002, the town operated more than 1,200 enterprises generating 37.29 billion yuan in annual output, but severe environmental degradation led to the district being named one of China's "Top 10 Environmental Violations" in 2003.1 The region leveraged this crisis by repurposing leather waste into pet chewing products, building a complete industrial chain that now sustains the local economy.
Beyond manufacturing, Pingyang has developed comprehensive pet-focused infrastructure and services to support its new identity.1 The district has completed adaptive renovations at over 120 scenic areas and parks, established four pet medical and wellness centers, and opened 18 pet-themed creative retail shops.1 In 2025, the city welcomed 18,700 pet-owning tourists, generating nearly 100 million yuan in related industry revenue.1 The sector's growth has also produced successful enterprises: Petti Group listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's ChiNext board in 2017, and Yuanfei Pet followed with a main board listing in 2022.1
