A Mexican judge has sentenced three men to 158 years and nine months in prison each for the murders of Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad.12 The three convicts were found guilty of homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery, and violent vehicle theft.1
The victims, who were in their thirties, were killed during a 2024 surfing trip to Baja California when the defendants attempted to rob them.2 The men shot the surfers in the head and disposed of their bodies in a well near a remote beach in Ensenada.2 The victims' bodies were discovered approximately one week after they were killed, having entered Mexico just 36 hours before their deaths.2
The three defendants, identified as Jesús Gerardo (also known as "El Kekas"), Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús, were convicted of crimes that generated widespread attention in Australia.2 In a related case from November 2023, the girlfriend of one of the defendants was separately sentenced to 20 years in prison for her involvement in the robbery.2
