A 19-year-old Norwegian was sentenced to 20 years in prison after traveling to the United Kingdom to carry out a contract killing on behalf of an international crime gang with Iranian backing.1 Johannes Kongsnes Natland agreed to shoot an unidentified target in exchange for €25,000 (£21,500) and departed from Stavanger, Norway in March 2024.1 Two days after his arrival, he was arrested at a hotel in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, where police seized a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver, 12 rounds of ammunition, gloves, and £2,000 in cash.1
The teenager had been recruited by members of the Foxtrot gang, a Swedish-based criminal organization reportedly supported by the Iranian regime.1 His handler, operating under the nickname "Generalen" (The General), was a Foxtrot member, while his superior used the alias "Agent 47."1 The gang has previously recruited children as young as 13 to engage in drug trafficking and violent crime.1
At Woolwich Crown Court, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb stated that Natland "agreed to act as an executor and to carry out the plan, despite having numerous opportunities to withdraw."1 She added: "If police intervention had not stopped the plan from proceeding, I am sure you would have done what you agreed to do."1
