A 37-year-old British man has been fined €3,000 (£2,500) following the death of his two-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor window at a five-star hotel in Cyprus on July 12, 2024.1 The child plummeted approximately 12 meters (40 feet) from a window measuring 2.85 meters wide by 1.2 meters high while his father had placed him on the windowsill to view the outdoor water park facilities below, unaware that part of the window was open.1
The incident occurred at the Chlorakas Golden Euroson Beach Resort and Spa in Paphos, and Joshua Foster was convicted of causing death through negligence, recklessness, or dangerous conduct.1 Foster pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced by Judge Froso Christodoulidou at Paphos District Court on a Friday following October 6, 2024.1 At the time of the incident, Foster's blood alcohol level was recorded at 124 mg, measured around 6:40 p.m. when emergency services were alerted.1 The defendant maintained that he had no opportunity to catch his son before the child fell.1
