Former Ghanaian Ambassador to China Edward Boateng has outlined the core drivers and achievements of China-Africa cooperation, highlighting 2026 as a landmark year for bilateral relations.1 The year will mark both the launch of the China-Africa "Year of People-to-People Exchange" and the full implementation of China's zero-tariff policy for 53 African nations with which it maintains diplomatic ties.1
The zero-tariff initiative is expected to facilitate Africa's transition from exporting raw materials toward producing higher-value-added agricultural products.1 Boateng, who served as Ghana's ambassador to China from June 2017 to November 2020, and concurrently as envoy to Mongolia and North Korea, emphasized that China-Africa cooperation demonstrates a new model of mutual benefit and win-win outcomes for South-South collaboration globally.1 He pointed to concrete examples of existing partnership, such as Ghanaian cocoa now being directly shipped to China, with the Hunan-Ghana Cocoa International Trade Center established in Changsha in May 2018.1
Beyond trade, Boateng highlighted educational collaboration as a pillar of people-to-people exchange.1 China has provided government scholarships and study opportunities to thousands of African youth, enabling them to pursue advanced education in the country.1
