On January 12, 2026, Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered remarks at the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection's fifth plenary session, declaring that "anti-corruption is a major struggle that cannot be lost and absolutely must not be lost—it cannot stop for a moment, nor can it retreat a single step."2 Xi warned of "all manner of two-faced hypocrites" within the party, cautioning that "no matter who, no matter how high their position, no matter how great their contributions, as long as they engage in corruption, we will never show leniency."2
The party's twentieth central committee plenum is scheduled to convene from the 26th to the 29th of this month, expected to deliberate on comprehensive strict governance of the party.2
