A Canadian government delegation held full-day discussions with World Health Organization leadership on November 20 to review decades of bilateral cooperation and advance joint priorities in global health1. The meeting focused on health system strengthening, universal health coverage, gender equality, equity, pandemic preparedness, and the draft pandemic treaty, among other strategic areas1.
Canada ranks as the WHO's eighth-largest overall contributor and fifth-largest contributor among member states, having provided approximately USD 175 million during the 2022–2023 financial year1. The country has also contributed USD 8.3 million to the WHO's emergency fund since 20151. Jean-Bernard Parenteau stated that "Canada remains committed to the WHO's role as the central hub of the global health ecosystem,"1 while Dr. Mike Ryan expressed that the organization looks forward to "continuing this critical dialogue with Canada, dedicated to equity and solidarity."1
