The Smithsonian Science Education Center, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the International Science Council, has developed a rapid-response guide titled "COVID-19! How Do I Protect Myself and Others?" designed for young people aged 8 to 17 1. The guide employs seven student-led activities to help youth understand the science and social science dimensions of COVID-19, learn about hygiene and protective measures, and take action to safeguard themselves, their families, and their communities 1.
The educational resource will be made available free of charge to young people globally in more than 15 languages, with particular emphasis on languages spoken in Africa and Asia 1. The guide incorporates quotes and advice from scientists and frontline public health officials, and is grounded in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 1. The initiative has received support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation 1.
