COVAX has secured a new supply agreement with Pfizer to procure up to 40 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine 1. Through existing partnerships with the Serum Institute of India and AstraZeneca, the initiative expects to deliver nearly 150 million doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine during the first quarter of 2021 1. The WHO anticipates making a decision on the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine candidate in mid-February 1.

The global vaccine distribution effort aims to deliver at least 2 billion doses by the end of 2021, with at least 1.3 billion doses allocated to 92 low-income countries participating in the Gavi COVAX Advance Market Commitment 1. Vaccine deliveries are planned to commence by the end of February 2021 1. To support these efforts, Gavi has committed $150 million toward preparation and delivery assistance 1. All 190 participating economies will receive indicative dose allocations by the end of January 1.
