The World Health Organization, in collaboration with more than 50 international organizations including the United Nations Children's Fund, the UN Refugee Agency, the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and Save the Children, has released a children's story book titled "I Am Your Hero: How Children Can Cope with COVID-19."1 The initiative targets children aged 6 to 11 years old and aims to help them understand and manage the psychological and emotional challenges posed by the pandemic.1
The book features a fictional character named Ario who guides children in learning self-protection measures and emotional management strategies.1 The project drew on input from more than 1,700 children, parents, caregivers, and teachers from around the world who shared their experiences in coping with the pandemic during the early stages of development.1 Currently, the book is available in six languages, with more than 30 additional language versions in preparation.1 In addition to printed copies, the story is accessible in online and audiobook formats.1
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating: "Previous humanitarian emergencies have shown that addressing young people's fears and anxieties is critical when life is disrupted."1 Henrietta Fore, Executive Director of UNICEF, added: "This beautifully illustrated book helps children understand and adapt to this new situation and learn how they can take small actions to become heroes in their own stories."1
