Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro appeared in New York court on Thursday to contest revised torture allegations brought against him and his wife, Cilia Flores.1 A judge entered not guilty pleas on behalf of both defendants, as Maduro stated the torture charges were "false."1 The indictment accuses the couple of leading a state-sponsored campaign of suppression that inflicted torture on numerous victims, including three American citizens.1
