A primary school student from Shenzhen has sent a heartfelt letter and artwork to border defense officers stationed on China's northeastern frontier, sparking an exchange of gratitude across thousands of kilometers. Cai Zhiyi, a student at Shuguang Campus of Shenzhen Primary School in Guangming District, was inspired by a textbook article titled "Song of Trees" to write to the border guards, enclosing illustrations along with the letter.1 On the morning of Mid-Autumn Festival, Cai Zhiyi and family members sent the letter through China Post's Guangming postal office.1
The Heilongjiang Entry-Exit Border Inspection Total Station responded on October 13 with a reply published on its official WeChat account "Longjiang Border Inspection," expressing deep appreciation for the young student's thoughtfulness.1 This border control unit, which transitioned from the People's Armed Police Heilongjiang Border Defense Detachment to the national immigration management system on January 1, 2019, is responsible for overseeing 2,981 kilometers of border line across Heilongjiang Province and more than 20 entry-exit ports.1 Following the border officers' response, the school organized students for an immersive ideological and political lesson that afternoon, using the exchange as a platform to discuss "what we can do for border defenders" and to encourage broader student participation in such initiatives.1
