A patient at Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick has been charged following an incident in which he allegedly poured petrol on three fellow patients and set one alight on Tuesday evening.1 Raymond James Dungay, 48, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, common assault, and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm.1 The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 pm, with hospital staff quickly extinguishing the flames and bringing the situation under control.1
The victim who caught fire, a 54-year-old male patient being treated for spinal cord injury, suffered minor burn injuries.1 Two other patients aged 63 and 64 were also targeted in the attack.1 New South Wales Health Minister Ryan Park responded to the incident by stating that "Violence in our hospitals is unacceptable."1 Opposition health spokesperson Sarah Mitchell added that "Safety must be a non-negotiable in our public hospitals."1
