1其代表作《Normal People》在英国销售超过100万册,另两部作品《Conversations With Friends》和《Beautiful World, Where Are You》各销售超过50万册。
Irish writer Sally Rooney has been forced to halt sales of her works in the United Kingdom following her public support for Palestine Action, an organization designated as a terrorist group by British authorities.1 Her publisher Faber has ceased supplying her books in the UK market, as the publisher is unable to pay Rooney royalties from British sales under the country's counterterrorism legislation.1
Rooney published a commentary article in Ireland expressing her continued backing for the organization and faces legal constraints stemming from Section 15 of the Counterterrorism Act, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment for supporting a banned organization.1 Palestine Action was prohibited as a terrorist organization in July 2025.1
Rooney's literary works have achieved substantial commercial success in Britain. Her novel Normal People has sold over one million copies in the UK, while her earlier work Conversations With Friends and her recent novel Beautiful World, Where Are You have each sold more than 500,000 copies in the country.1 The BBC adaptation of Normal People garnered 267 million views and became the most-watched BBC program in 2020.1 Since the July ban on Palestine Action, British authorities have arrested over 3,700 people on suspicion of supporting the organization, with approximately 2,500 facing prosecution.1
