Western Xia Imperial Mausoleum has yielded artifacts featuring the Kalavinka, a sacred bird in Buddhist iconography, offering insights into the dynasty's religious practices and cultural integration.1 The Kalavinka—a Sanskrit term transliterated as "Kalavinka" and commonly rendered as "melodious bird" or "divine songbird"—typically appears in artistic representations as a creature with a human head and bird body, with spread wings.1 These relics have been primarily discovered at Mausoleum No. 3 within the Western Xia complex.1
The museum has expanded its documentation and preservation efforts through modern technology. Staff completed high-resolution image capture, three-dimensional scanning, and archival cataloging of 361 sets of precious cultural artifacts.1 A newly established monitoring and early-warning platform at the site constructs an intelligent surveillance network that enables real-time change detection, risk identification, and hazard prevention.1 Beyond artifacts themselves, the institution has launched innovative outreach initiatives, including an artificial intelligence-produced short drama series titled "Secrets of Western Xia Mausoleum: Beneath Helan Mountain," which premiered this year.1 The mausoleum has also coordinated collaborative exhibitions with 327 primary-tier museums nationwide and 60 World Heritage sites.1
The discovery of Buddhist-themed objects such as Kalavinka figurines, mythical creatures, warrior statues, and lotus motifs underscores the Western Xia civilization's reverence for Buddhism and the profound influence of Central Chinese cultural traditions on the dynasty.1
