AI-generated short dramas from China are experiencing expanding international reach, with industry professionals advocating for localized and differentiated production strategies to move beyond saturated domestic markets. 1 According to Li Mu, general manager of Hunan Liuyi Film and Television, artificial intelligence has democratized content creation: "With AI, everyone can be a director. Sit at a computer, input prompts, and characters and scenes from around the world can be created." 1
The efficiency gains from AI technology are substantial. Wan Bao Flying Stream Technology, represented by general manager Cao Rui, can now produce content in a week that previously required a month of manual work. 1 To maximize international appeal, Wu Jiabing, vice president of Wondershare Technology, recommends a multi-pronged localization approach including original or adapted scripts tailored to regional audiences, locally relevant character design, and synchronized subtitle and lip-sync adaptation. 1
However, industry leaders emphasize that human creativity remains irreplaceable. Zhang Yiwu, professor of Chinese Studies at Peking University, stressed that genuine innovation stems from creators' lived experiences and imaginative capacity, which cannot be automated. 1
These discussions took place during the "New Art China · Digital Boundless" Cultural and Technology Integration Conference held in Hunan from October 12 to 16. 1
