The surge extends far beyond Pennsylvania's borders. Among Pennsylvania's infected population, children and adolescents bear a significant burden, with those aged 18 and under accounting for one-third of all cases in the state.1 However, the state has observed that fully vaccinated individuals comprise less than 1 percent of confirmed cases.1 State health officials are urging vaccination for children aged 12 and older with two doses of MMR or MMRV vaccine.1 The first two deaths from the outbreak occurred in August and involved infants.1
