Former Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock has stated his belief that current British Prime Minister Andy Burnham possesses "authentic" commitment to bringing Britain back into the European Union under a Labour government following the next general election.1 In an interview with Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Kinnock declared that "His commitment is authentic. He really does understand from the grassroots up why restoring what I think of as normality in our continent is vital."1 Kinnock further characterized Burnham as "a committed pro-European" and drew a comparison between Burnham's political vision and Winston Churchill's approach in the 1950s.1
When questioned about the matter by Conservative MPs in Parliament yesterday, Burnham declined to engage directly with the proposal, suggesting that such discussion was "getting way ahead of himself."1
