Investigators have uncovered a troubling trend of short video content creators operating cross-provincial marriage intermediary services under the guise of "marrying a wife from the mountains."1 At least six accounts promoting this service were identified, with four based in Shandong Province and two in Anhui Province.1
These intermediaries market their services with aggressive guarantees, promising clients they can be matched with rural women and obtain marriage certificates within three to seven days.1 Marketing tactics employed by service representatives include phrases such as "guaranteed marriage registration," "no fee if unsuccessful," and "installment payment options for bride prices."1 One account operator identified as "Ideal Brother" described the new business model in a livestream, stating that men could "spend a few tens of thousands of yuan" to meet prospective partners and their families before obtaining marriage licenses.1
The brokers deliberately target women they characterize as having limited access to resources and low expectations, portraying them as seeking men with minimal bride price requirements.1 Customer service representatives explained that the "women from the mountains" featured in their services are primarily those "unable to access better opportunities, with lower bride price expectations and fewer demands."1 Some of these accounts have already faced platform enforcement action, with accounts such as "Speed Marriage Find Lao Ding" being suspended.1 The practices raise serious concerns about potential violations of public morality and ethical standards in matrimonial services.1
