Growing numbers of overseas travelers are participating in "China tech tours," visiting high-tech enterprises in cities including Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Hangzhou to experience cutting-edge technologies such as drones, robots, and autonomous vehicles.1 These visitors represent a diverse group spanning corporate executives, investors, political figures, and media professionals.1
The surge in inbound tourism has been driven by a combination of policy liberalization, expanded travel offerings, and China's rapid technological advancement.1 During the first half of this year, visa-exempt foreign arrivals reached 17.815 million, accounting for 77.7 percent of all foreign visitors to China.1 China has implemented unilateral visa-free policies for 50 countries, with citizens from 55 additional nations eligible for 240-hour visa-free transit privileges.1 On the travel platform Ctrip, inbound tourism bookings grew approximately 90 percent year-over-year in the first quarter.1
"China tech tour" packages range from several thousand to over ten thousand U.S. dollars in cost.1 Wu Mianqing, Chief Executive Officer of Baiguan Technology, observed that "people view China as an object of study and learning," noting that "such a trend barely existed a few years ago."1 Wang Zichen, Vice Secretary-General of the Center for China and Globalization, explained the appeal more directly: "Some inspection delegations come on 'China tech tours' for straightforward reasons—China is progressing rapidly in technology, and reading papers alone is insufficient; they must see it firsthand."1
