A surge of cold air will bring freezing temperatures to much of Northeast China from October 13 to 14, with Harbin's minimum temperature expected to drop to -3°C on the morning of October 15, marking the first time this half-year the low has dipped below freezing 1. The high temperatures across the Northeast will fall to around 15°C or as low as 10°C during this period, with Harbin's daytime high reaching just 10°C on October 14 1. Following this initial cold snap, another wave of cold air will move eastward across northern China from October 15 to 19 1.
Meanwhile, the interaction between cold and warm air masses will unleash extensive autumn rainfall across southern regions 1. Southern areas will experience highs exceeding 30°C, with some localities potentially seeing heat waves, while the Southwest and middle-to-lower Yangtze River valley will face a three-day precipitation event 1. On October 14, heavy rain and downpours are forecast for parts of southern Hubei, northern Hunan, southeastern Chongqing, and northeastern Guizhou 1. From October 15 onward, heavy to severe downpours are expected in parts of southern Anhui, southeastern Hubei, and northern Hunan 1. Authorities are warning of potential secondary hazards including flash flooding and landslides, particularly in areas experiencing extreme rainfall in the Southwest and lower Yangtze River regions 1.
