Following claims by Yemen's Houthi militants of launching attacks against King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, at least 16 people have been killed since last Thursday, according to Saudi authorities 1. However, Deutsche Welle's fact-checking division has identified multiple artificially generated videos circulating on social media that falsely purport to document these attacks, reaching millions of viewers across platforms.
The first fabricated video gained 1.7 million views on X, despite having been uploaded in March 2026 1. A second false video accumulated 2.9 million views on the same platform, constructed from authentic photographs originally uploaded to Shutterstock in 2016 1. On TikTok, a third AI-generated video surpassed 301,000 views after circulating in March 2026, while a fourth false video exceeded 500,000 views and contained a Google SynthID watermark 1. The same video reached over 157,000 views on Facebook, and a post shared by the Times of Israel garnered more than 256,000 views 1.
These deceptive videos have spread internationally across multiple languages, including Arabic, English, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Nepali 1.
