Sellers on e-commerce platforms are marketing modified water cups, alarm clocks, and other household items designed to conceal mobile phones while evading metal detector checks at schools 1. These products, priced from tens to hundreds of yuan, have achieved significant sales volumes, with some individual listings exceeding 500 units monthly and cumulative sales surpassing 4,000 units 1.
The practice directly contradicts educational policy. China's Ministry of Education issued a directive stipulating that middle and primary school students should in principle not bring personal mobile phones into school campuses 1. Legal experts argue that such products violate both the Law on the Protection of Minors and the E-Commerce Law. Zhu Wei, associate professor at China University of Political Science and Law, stated that "the so-called 'gadgets' sold on platforms are actually tools helping or inciting minors to violate laws and regulations by bringing phones into classrooms" 1.
Zhu Wei recommends that platforms promptly remove these products from their listings and fulfill their regulatory obligations by conducting regular audits to identify and take action against repeat offenders 1.
