Shenzhen's cybercrime police have dismantled an operation involving the illegal modification of drone flight control systems.1 The suspect, identified as Hu, unlawfully hacked into drone flight controllers and sold the modified systems online, generating illegal profits of over 20,000 yuan.1 By removing safety restrictions such as no-fly zones, restricted airspace boundaries, and flight altitude limits, the tampered drones enabled numerous unauthorized flights.1
During the investigation, authorities seized computers, mobile phones, and other equipment used in the crime, as well as multiple modified drones bearing records of illegal high-altitude flights.1 Hu was convicted of illegally controlling computer information systems in violation of Article 285 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China.1 In June 2026, the Longgang District People's Court of Shenzhen sentenced Hu to eight months of imprisonment and imposed a fine of 5,000 yuan.1
