Celebrated international photographer Liu Xiangcheng has completed an unprecedented documentary photography project spanning three years, 21 countries, and 50 regions, covering a total distance of 267,000 kilometers.1 The project, titled "Ancient Roads, New Chapters: China in the World," represents the first systematic visual record of Belt and Road Initiative developments across all participating areas.1
Liu, the only Chinese photographer to have won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography, brings decades of expertise to this undertaking.1 He served as a senior foreign correspondent and chief photographer for the Associated Press for 15 years and was twice named AP's Photographer of the Year.1 The accompanying book, published in Hong Kong on July 16, comprises 508 pages.1 Rather than focusing on infrastructure alone, the exhibition highlights the human stories and everyday lives of ordinary people affected by this century-spanning global initiative.1
