China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commission Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Maros Sefcovic co-chaired the second meeting of the China-EU Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism on October 8-9 in Beijing.1 The two sides engaged in reciprocal dialogue across multiple policy areas including trade and investment balance, export controls, intellectual property rights, and World Trade Organization reform.1
The officials reached consensus on market access and trade issues in key sectors including electric vehicles, medical devices, and agricultural products.1 On the sensitive issue of electric vehicles, both parties committed to in-depth discussions based on the principles of respecting facts, non-discrimination, and compliance with WTO rules.1 The European side pledged to continue advancing progress on prioritized dual-use licensing cases for China.1 The two nations identified substantial cooperation potential in emerging areas such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, services trade, the digital economy, and green and low-carbon development.1
The ministerial leaders agreed to schedule the third meeting of the consultation mechanism for March 2027, with a ministerial-level video conference planned for January.1
