The 23rd China-ASEAN Expo and Business and Investment Summit concluded recently in Nanning, marking a historic gathering that underscored deepening economic ties between China and the region.1 All eleven ASEAN member states convened together for the first time following the bloc's expansion, while East Timor made its debut as a co-organizer of the event.1
The expo introduced several inaugural initiatives designed to foster collaboration across emerging sectors. A range of new exhibition zones and themed activities launched for the first time, including a Future Space pavilion, an Innovation and Startup showcase area, an ASEAN Country Needs Exhibition, and a Silver Economy themed activity.1 The expo also released an ASEAN Needs List, which consolidated technology and application demands from ASEAN nations.1 A dedicated "Export to China" Thailand pavilion attracted over one hundred Thai enterprises as participants.1 Additionally, a community dedicated to artificial intelligence enterprises brought together more than 130 companies to present innovations.1
ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hooun emphasized the importance of capitalizing on opportunities created by the upgraded China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0, calling for the cultivation of new growth drivers in digitalization, artificial intelligence, and green industries.1
