Ukrainian drones struck Yandex's largest data center facility in Russia for the second time within two days on October 9th 1. The attack targeted the complex located in the Grabtsevo industrial park in Kaluga Oblast, resulting in the complete shutdown of multiple modules at the site 1.
The damaged facility represents Yandex's most significant data center infrastructure in Russia, spanning approximately 130,000 square meters with a planned power capacity of 63 megawatts and capable of housing over 3,800 server racks 1. Each server rack was designed to handle a maximum load of 15 kilowatts 1. Construction of the facility began in 2022, and it became operational in the second half of 2023, serving both Yandex's internal services and supporting the expansion of Yandex Cloud's fourth availability zone 1. Ukrainian drones had also previously attacked another Yandex data center located in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast 1.
