The Yuanping City People's Court in Shanxi Province handed down its first-instance verdict on October 9, 2026, in a major safety accident case involving Daixian Jingcheng Mining Company.1 Forty-one defendants, including Pan Dangren and Wang Sudong, were convicted of violating safety management regulations that resulted in 48 major fatal accidents claiming 54 lives between 2006 and 2022.1
The defendants were found guilty of crimes including major responsibility for accidents, failure to report safety incidents, and bribery.1 Pan Dangren, the principal defendant, received the maximum sentence of 16 years' imprisonment, comprising 7 years for major responsibility for accidents and 11 years for bribery, to be served consecutively.1 Wang Sudong and other defendants received sentences ranging from 16 years down to 1 year, with two defendants receiving suspended sentences.1 Pan Dangren was also found to have engaged in bribery totaling approximately 8.63 million yuan, while Wang Sudong's bribery amount reached 2.705 million yuan.1
