TechSpot has released a comprehensive update on its extended OLED burn-in study, now spanning 30 months and 8,000 cumulative hours of use.1 The test employs an MSI MPG 321URX 4K QD-OLED display subjected to extreme static-content workflows—including web browsing, document editing, and Photoshop operations—to simulate real-world productivity usage patterns.1 Daily usage has averaged 8 to 10 hours at approximately 200 nits brightness, with the display undergoing only 865 compensation cycles, roughly half the manufacturer's recommended frequency.1
The findings document measurable degradation across multiple performance metrics. Peak brightness has declined 5 percent, dropping from an initial 243 nits to 231 nits after 30 months,1 while color temperature has shifted downward by roughly 150 Kelvin, moving from approximately 6440 Kelvin at factory settings to 6292 Kelvin.1 Green subpixels have experienced the most severe decay, while red subpixels have degraded least.1 The panel displays distinct burn-in artifacts, including vertical lines at application boundaries (reverse burn-in) and taskbar persistence, initially visible on dark gray backgrounds and in full-screen applications but now faintly discernible even on pure white images.1
Despite these visible signs of wear, the display remains functionally operational.1 TechSpot noted that while the testing conditions represent an extreme scenario—stating "this is not how you should use an OLED display, but we have sacrificed this panel for science"—the results provide insights into long-term OLED panel behavior under sustained static workloads.1
