Former U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln has shifted her stance on prediction markets, transitioning from a vocal critic warning of gambling risks to an advocate pushing for regulatory relaxation on behalf of Kalshi, a prediction market platform.1
In July 2010, during Senate hearings on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Lincoln cautioned that prediction markets could circumvent gambling laws.1 She specifically warned that event contracts tied to sporting events such as the Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby, and Masters Golf Tournament could easily be constructed for gambling purposes alone, stating: "These contracts would not serve any real commercial purpose—they would just be used for gambling."1
Since 2024, Lincoln's consulting firm has received $480,000 in compensation from Kalshi for lobbying efforts aimed at persuading Congress and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to ease restrictions on event contracts.1 She is currently advocating for the CFTC to permit sports wagering on prediction market platforms.1
