China's national men's football team has fallen to 96th place in the latest FIFA world rankings released by the International Federation of Football Association on October 7, marking a decline of five positions from the previous ranking 1. This represents the team's lowest standing in nearly a decade, matching the 96th-place position last reached in March 2016 1.
The drop follows a poor performance in the recently concluded 2026 CFA China Team International Football Invitational in Chongqing, where the squad compiled a record of one victory and three defeats 1. China defeated Maldives 3-0 but suffered losses to New Zealand (0-3), Palestine (0-5), and Tajikistan (0-1) 1. With a total score of 1,241.90 points, the team now ranks 15th among nations under the Asian Football Confederation 1. The previous high point came in October 2017, when the team achieved its best-ever ranking of 57th place 1.
