TP-Link is confronting escalating legal challenges in the United States as Florida and three other states have filed lawsuits alleging that the company misrepresented its ties to China and concealed risks of its routers being exploited by Chinese state-sponsored hackers.1 These legal actions follow the Federal Communications Commission's decision six months earlier to ban consumer-grade routers manufactured outside the United States, a policy that has effectively blocked TP-Link from selling its latest Wi-Fi 8 routers in the American market.1
The regulatory restrictions have proven particularly damaging to TP-Link, as the Trump administration has granted exemptions to multiple competing manufacturers including Netgear, Asus, Adtran, Amazon and its Eero subsidiary, Calix, Nokia, and SpaceX's Starlink division.1 TP-Link remains notably absent from the exemption list, meaning the company cannot introduce new models despite the availability of previously approved devices for continued sale.1
