南京大屠杀幸存者郭秀兰于10月7日上午在家中离世,享年94岁1。郭秀兰生于1932年10月8日,1937年日军侵占南京时年仅5岁1。她曾亲历日军扫射防空洞的惨剧,父母和妹妹在该事件中遇难1。
郭秀兰生前回忆了这段惨痛的经历:"三个日本兵站在洞口用机枪对洞内扫射。大概过了半个小时,洞里安静下来,我才知道,我父母和小妹都被日军打死了。小妹死在妈妈怀里。爸爸把妈妈搂在怀里。"1
截至目前,登记在册在世的南京大屠杀幸存者仅余20位1。
Guo Xiulan, a survivor of the Nanjing Massacre, died at her home on the morning of October 7 at the age of 941. Born on October 8, 1932, Guo was only five years old when Japanese forces occupied Nanjing in 19371. She directly witnessed Japanese soldiers firing machine guns into an air raid shelter, an attack in which her parents and younger sister were killed1.
In recounting her harrowing experience, Guo recalled: "Three Japanese soldiers stood at the entrance of the cave and sprayed the interior with machine gun fire. After about half an hour, the cave fell silent... I then realized that my parents and little sister had been shot dead by the Japanese. My sister died in mother's arms. Father held mother in his embrace"1.
With Guo's passing, the number of registered and living Nanjing Massacre survivors has dwindled to just 201.
