A new model of destination weddings has gained significant traction in China, with Lijiang, Yunnan emerging as a major hub for the trend. Under this approach, couples consolidate their marriage registration, wedding ceremony, and honeymoon in a single city, creating an integrated travel and celebration experience.1 The industry in Lijiang has already exceeded 1.1 billion yuan in annual scale, supported by over 1,000 businesses specializing in destination wedding services, including photography, makeup, and formal wear.1
The growth has been facilitated by policy reforms. Starting May 10, 2025, China's Marriage Registration Regulations came into effect, enabling marriage registration to be completed anywhere in the country rather than requiring registration at the couples' hometown.1 Lijiang has capitalized on this opportunity, attracting substantial numbers of young couples. On average, approximately 200 couples visit Yulong Snow Mountain daily for pre-wedding photography shoots, with 90 percent coming from outside the province.1 Complete destination wedding packages, covering makeup, styling, formal attire, and private transportation, can be arranged for approximately 10,000 yuan.1
