The company, headquartered in Eindhoven, Netherlands, was founded in 2017 following the technology's initial testing in 2013.1 SlamDam has already been deployed across more than a dozen countries spanning Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia, with the system recently gaining recognition through participation in New York City's urban climate adaptation competition.1 In Burundi's Mpanda commune, farmers using SlamDam during the 2022 flood season reported doubled incomes and increased productivity among those gaining access to water resources, according to United Nations reports.1 The startup has secured four new project contracts totaling approximately $5.3 million, involving Burundi, Djibouti, and Guinea.1

WaveSave plans to establish local manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia and East Africa by 2027 while expanding into broader water resource management services.1 Currently operating with seven employees and self-funded capital, the company is responding to a critical global challenge: approximately 200 million people will face flood risks before 2100, representing an increase of 300 million from 2020 levels.1
