A decomposed body believed to be female was found in an abandoned livestock dipping trough in the Terragon area of northern New South Wales on Monday morning, prompting police to launch a suspicious death investigation.1 The discovery was made around 11:20 a.m. by two off-road motorcycle riders in the Tweed Shire region, approximately 40 kilometers from the NSW-Queensland border.1
The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition and partially submerged in the trough at the time of discovery.1 Detective Matthew Zimmer stated: "The body is believed to be of a female, but due to the state of decomposition of that body I'm unable to provide further details."1 The victim's identity has not yet been confirmed as authorities conduct forensic examinations and cross-reference missing persons records.1 An autopsy is scheduled to take place within days to determine the cause of death.1
