A female researcher at a plague research institute in Irkutsk, Russia has died from what authorities are investigating as a case of pneumonic plague.2 The worker, identified as Daria Sh., was between 27 and 28 years old and worked at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute in Siberia.2 She reported that the infection occurred after she accidentally broke a test tube containing live plague bacteria while collecting samples.2 She was admitted to a hospital in the town of Selekhov on Tuesday with pneumonia symptoms and died on Thursday.2
