Typhoon Hongxia is forecast to make landfall along the coast between Hong Kong and Huizhou in Guangdong during the night of July 25th through the early morning of July 26th.1 The storm will bring heavy to torrential rainfall across Guangdong and Fujian provinces, with southeastern Guangdong facing particularly intense precipitation that could trigger secondary disasters such as flash floods and landslides.1 Cumulative rainfall is predicted to reach 150–300 millimeters in affected areas, with some locations recording 400–500 millimeters between July 25th and 27th.2
In response to the typhoon threat, authorities have undertaken extensive evacuation and preparation measures. Guangdong province has relocated over 20,000 people, while 2,412 individuals have been evacuated from maritime operations.1 All 5,513 fishing vessels at sea have returned to port for shelter, and a total of 195 workers from three offshore wind power platforms, 1,915 personnel engaged in fish raft farming, and 302 workers at marine ranches have been brought ashore.1 Additionally, 35 coastal scenic areas have been closed.1 Multiple airports serving the region—including Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Baoan, Hong Kong International, Zhuhai Jinwan, Jieyang Chaoshan, and Xiamen Gaoqi—are experiencing service disruptions.1
China's national flood control authority activated a Level 4 emergency response for flood and typhoon prevention,1 while Fujian province elevated its typhoon emergency response to Level 3.1 On July 24th, the Ministry of Emergency Management initiated a national Level 4 geological disaster emergency response for Guangdong and Fujian, requiring authorities to "ensure comprehensive and early evacuation to minimize casualties."2
