The financial commitment required for egg freezing in Australia remains substantial, with a single cycle typically costing between 8,000 and 12,000 Australian dollars, plus annual storage fees 1. Despite these expenses, the procedure continues to gain traction as a fertility insurance measure. In Australia, more than 113,000 IVF treatment cycles were conducted in 2024, resulting in over 20,900 babies, with three-quarters of these IVF births involving frozen embryos 1. Growing awareness of fertility options is also reflected in medical testing patterns, with anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) tests in Australia increasing thirteenfold between 2011 and 2021, and nearly twentyfold among women aged 30 to 34 1.

The regulatory landscape is undergoing significant reform. In September 2024, the health minister called for a comprehensive review of assisted reproductive technology practices 1. Following this review, ten reform recommendations were released in September 2025, with transition measures expected to be completed by December 2028 1.
