Two Iranian nationals have been charged in connection with a suspected terror plot targeting Manchester's Jewish community. Rahman Salehe, 35, and Salam Ahmadian, 36, were arrested on September 20, the eve of Yom Kippur, in Newton Street in Manchester city center's north ward.1 Both men face charges of preparation of terrorist acts or assisting others in committing terrorist offenses.1
The pair are scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on October 3.1 According to counter-terrorism authorities, the two suspects arrived in the United Kingdom by small boat several years ago.1 Following their arrest, properties in Liverpool on Epworth Street and in Salford on Lancaster Road were searched as part of the investigation.1
Vicky Evans, a senior coordinator for counter-terrorism police, stated that the charges represent "extremely serious allegations and evidence" stemming from a joint investigation conducted by counter-terrorism police and security partners.1 She emphasized that the investigation had disrupted what authorities believed to be a conspiracy targeting Manchester's Jewish community.1
