A locust tree standing more than one hundred years old at the Zunyi Conference Memorial Museum has become a living witness to one of history's pivotal moments.1 The towering tree, which reaches over ten meters in height, was merely the thickness of a bowl when the Zunyi Conference convened in 1935.1 Its remarkable longevity has earned it recognition as the sole "living cultural relic" on the premises, embodying the historical significance of this crucial turning point during the Long March.1
The tree's natural growth pattern has shaped it into a distinctive V form, a configuration rich with symbolism.1 The V shape represents both the English word "victory" and carries profound meaning in local Zunyi culture, signifying the ability to overcome challenges.1 According to historical accounts, Zhu De's wife, Kang Keqing, once resided on the second floor of the conference venue and could see this very tree by simply opening her window.1
Recognition of the tree's cultural and historical value has led to formal protective measures. The Red Flower District Forestry Bureau of Zunyi Municipality has registered and catalogued the ancient locust tree, affixed protective plaques, and established a monthly health inspection regimen to ensure its well-being through seasonal care practices.1 On October 1st, the memorial museum welcomed 52,332 visitors, underscoring the enduring public interest in this landmark of revolutionary history.1
