China is promoting a "transportation-tourism integration" model that transforms transportation vehicles into travel experience venues, breathing new life into previously idle time and space during journeys.1 The initiative has gained significant traction in Shandong Province, where themed cruise lines and trains have transported over 1.3 million passengers and driven 2 billion yuan in consumption along their routes.1
Shandong has emerged as a leading region in this integration strategy. The province's "Canal No. 1" cruise line, which includes eight initial routes, commenced operations during this year's National Day holiday period.1 Beyond maritime offerings, Shandong has also rolled out the "Shandong No. 1" railway tourism experience, the "Peninsula No. 1" ocean voyage, and the "Great River No. 1" self-driving tour.1
The expansion of such initiatives reflects national-level support for the sector. In June of this year, China's Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Culture and Tourism jointly issued measures aimed at promoting the fusion of railway operations with tourism development to expand service consumption.1
