The severe weather triggered widespread emergency responses, with emergency services receiving more than 200 distress calls.1 The calls included 71 reports of building damage, 50 cases of flooding, and 44 incidents of fallen trees, in addition to six water rescues.1 Ballarat and Melbourne also experienced 20 to 50 millimetres of rainfall Thursday afternoon,1 while Adelaide Hills in South Australia recorded 20 to 25 millimetres over the preceding 24 hours.1
According to David Crock, a senior meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology, this represents "one of the wettest October days in recent years."1 The wet conditions are expected to persist through Friday and Saturday, with parts of eastern Victoria potentially accumulating 100 to 150 millimetres of additional rainfall.1 Conditions are forecast to improve by Sunday.1
