The stepson of renowned British explorer Ranulph Fiennes has announced his intention to speak with Cheshire Police about the 82-year-old adventurer's welfare and living conditions.1 Alexander Millington-Coates has raised concerns that Fiennes, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, has been isolated and is living under an assumed identity at multiple care facilities for over a year.1 Fiennes has not appeared publicly for two years, with his current wife Louise holding guardianship and power of attorney over him.1
Millington-Coates has disclosed that a Welsh care regulator confirmed in an email that Fiennes is "currently being unlawfully deprived of liberty without authorization."1 The investigation into Fiennes' circumstances follows concerns raised by actor Joseph Fiennes, a relative, who contacted the Public Guardian's Office in January of this year.1 However, Cheshire Police has issued a statement asserting that they have "no safeguarding concerns" regarding Sir Ranulph Fiennes, stating he "lives in an appropriate environment with suitable care and professional oversight."1
In response to the situation, Millington-Coates is crowdfunding a legal application to attempt to regain guardianship of Fiennes.1
