According to the official consensus released by China's state news agency Xinhua, the two leaders "recalled that China and America were allies during WWII, fighting shoulder-to-shoulder to achieve victory in the war."1 Zhang Han asserted that the Chinese Communist Party "formulated correct strategic policies, opened vast battlefields behind enemy lines, and became the mainstay of sustained resistance during the war."1 When pressed by Taiwan media to acknowledge the role of Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist government, Zhang Han dismissed the questions as "inconsistent with the facts."1
Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council responded on the 25th, stating that the CCP's propagation of distorted historical perspectives cannot erase the documented fact that the Republic of China was a steadfast American ally during WWII.1
