Yuanguang Technology, a subsidiary of Taiwan's Pan Group, plans to complete a prototype of its next-generation AI glasses in December, according to chairman Pan Zhongguang, who made the announcement at the Shanghai Cross-Strait Innovation Development Week. 1
The new prototype will feature silicon-based OLED micro-display technology, enabling color display capabilities at approximately half the cost of current products. 1 The company chose this technology over existing LED solutions, which Pan described as problematic due to their excessive brightness and blue light with ultraviolet properties that can harm eyesight. 1 Silicon-based OLED micro-displays offer better eye protection and longer lifespan compared to LED alternatives. 1
Yuanguang Technology's silicon-based OLED micro-display technology has applications in three types of glasses: AI glasses for information prompts, augmented reality glasses for 3D effects, and virtual reality glasses for immersive experiences. 1 The company initiated research and development of this technology ten years ago. 1
