Two prominent cultural institutions—Fotografiska Shenzhen Bay Museum and BASE Digital Art Center—officially opened to the public on October 1st at Shenzhen Bay Mixc.1 Fotografiska Shenzhen Bay is the world's fifth permanent Fotografiska venue and the only one in South China,1 while BASE Digital Art Center marks China's first and South China's only permanent LIGHTROOM facility.1
Fotografiska's inaugural season features five exhibitions spanning photography, video, and new media art.1 These include the Asian premiere of TOILETPAPER and a solo exhibition by Michael Najjar, among other works.1 Simultaneously, BASE Digital Art Center unveils two major exhibitions: "David Hockney: Bigger & Closer," a digital art retrospective personally created and overseen by the artist over three years,1 and "Prehistoric Planet: Age of Dinosaurs," which will remain on display through May 30, 2027.1
The BASE venue features a 16-meter-high exhibition hall equipped with a 360-degree immersive sound system and surround projection technology,1 positioning both institutions as significant new cultural landmarks in the region.
